Central Asian University Researcher Publishes Study on Digital Competence in Medical Education

Professor Sherzad Tuychiev has published a new research article in BMC Medical Education, one of the leading international journals in health professions education.
The study, titled “Current Levels and Needs of Digital Competence Among Medical Teachers in Uzbekistan: A Multi-Institutional Assessment and Future Directions”, explores the current state of digital competence among medical educators across Uzbekistan and identifies key areas for future development.
As digital technologies continue to transform medical education, the research examined how effectively educators integrate digital tools into teaching and learning processes. The study was conducted using the European DigCompEdu framework, an internationally recognized model for assessing educators’ digital competencies.
According to the findings, 66.9% of participants demonstrated advanced levels of digital competence and were classified as “leaders” or “pioneers.” The research highlighted strong performance in reflective practice, the selection of digital resources, and learner engagement.
At the same time, the study identified several areas requiring further attention, including digital content creation, continuous professional development, collaborative learning approaches, and responsible digital use.
The research provides valuable insights for the future development of medical education in Uzbekistan and contributes to strengthening digital pedagogy in higher education institutions.
