A Chance Choice That Became a Career: The Story of CAU Graduate Daniel Kapranov, QA Expert at Beeline Uzbekistan
Daniel Kapranov’s journey into IT did not begin with a childhood dream or a clear plan. Quite the opposite — it started as an experiment.
Back in school, he planned to become an automotive engineer, but at some point decided to try himself in a completely new field — with little to no background. Having been accepted into several universities, he chose Central Asian University.
As Daniel himself admits, that decision turned out to be life-changing. He studied Computer Science at the Engineering School of Central Asian University.
At university, he was not an “ideal student” in the traditional sense. What attracted him most was freedom — the ability to choose where to invest his time and how to grow. It was at CAU where he discovered the fields that truly interested him: machine learning, data analysis, and linear algebra. This is where Daniel understood what he wanted to pursue and how to build his professional path.
According to him, every professor contributed to shaping his mindset — sometimes through knowledge, sometimes through their approach to work. It was within this environment that he began developing his understanding of the profession and building key skills.
His interest in testing emerged later, during his first job. Starting his career as a full-stack developer at IMZO (AKFA Group), Daniel found himself testing the products he was building. As he delved deeper into the process, he realized that this was the area that interested him the most.
“I became interested not just in writing code, but in understanding the system as a whole and being responsible for product quality.”
Over time, he fully transitioned into QA and continued developing in this field.
Today, Daniel is a QA expert at Beeline Uzbekistan. He works on testing billing systems — one of the most critical components of telecom products. His role has gone far beyond traditional testing: he leads a team of QA engineers, manages projects, automates systems, and updates test scenarios.
In addition, he trains his team to work with new systems, builds processes, and ensures product quality at every stage of development.
In such systems, the cost of error is extremely high. One notable case in Daniel’s experience involved identifying a critical bug during testing that could have affected system stability. The issue appeared only under rare conditions and could have easily gone unnoticed, but it was caught before release. This allowed the team to fix it in time and prevent potential failures. For Daniel, this became yet another confirmation of the importance of a systematic approach to quality and the role of testing in development.
The transition from development to testing was not easy — it required a complete shift in mindset and learning to look at the product not as a developer, but as someone responsible for its quality. However, this became a major growth point.
Over time, Daniel expanded his role, began working on multiple projects simultaneously, and moved from manual testing to automation. In the near future, he plans to take the next step — becoming a team lead.
Reflecting on his journey, he speaks honestly: if he could go back to his student years, he would study harder. However, it was through practice, real projects, and continuous progress that he reached his current level.
The main advice Daniel gives to those just starting in IT is not to wait for the “perfect moment.”
“Gain as much practical experience as possible — through projects, internships, and real tasks. And most importantly, do what you truly enjoy. If you’re not sure yet — try everything. The key is to keep moving forward,” he says.
Daniel Kapranov’s story is not about a “perfect path,” but about exploration, choice, and consistent growth — and how even a chance decision can become the starting point of a strong professional trajectory.
