Professor Akbarjon Mirzayev of the Faculty of Medicine at Central Asian University, together with Asadbek Sultonov and Fazliddin Mutalibjonov, medical school graduates, orthopedic surgery graduates, and AMUH residents, has co-authored a new research article published in Biomedical Materials & Devices, a Q1 journal by Springer Nature.
The systematic review, titled “Piezoelectric Biomaterials for Bone Regeneration: Mechanistic Insights and Preclinical Evidence - A Systematic Review of In Vitro and In Vivo Studies,” examines the application of piezoelectric biomaterials in bone regeneration.
The authors analyzed 37 preclinical studies investigating piezoelectric polymers, ceramics, and polymer–ceramic composites. The review focuses on their effects on key processes involved in bone repair, including osteogenic activity, mineralization, new bone formation, and osseointegration.
The findings indicate that piezoelectric biomaterials have significant potential to support bone regeneration and may contribute to the development of advanced approaches in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
