Central Asian University alumni Bekhruz Alisherov is currently completing his residency in urology at AKFA Medline University Hospital, one of the leading medical centers in Uzbekistan. His journey into medicine began long before entering university, but his professional development took shape during his studies at CAU.
Bekhruz graduated from the General Medicine program, actively participating in medical Olympiads, research projects, and clinical rotations. During his university years, he began shaping his specialization and defining his professional interests.
Medicine had been part of his life since childhood. His father, Bekhzod Alisherovich Ayubov, is a well-known surgeon-urologist and one of the specialists contributing to the development of laparoscopic surgery in Uzbekistan. However, Bekhruz admits that at the beginning of his journey he doubted whether he would be able to build his own professional story and not remain in the shadow of his father’s achievements.
Alongside his studies, he always had a wide range of interests. Since childhood he had been involved in sports, played chess, and participated in team games. Later, a creative interest emerged as well — he began writing poetry and performed at poetry evenings.

A special role in his academic motivation was played by his younger sister Khilola. They studied together at school and later enrolled in Central Asian University in the same General Medicine program. For six years they studied side by side again. Khilola consistently ranked among the top students of their cohort, and according to Bekhruz, she often motivated him to keep moving forward.
One of the most challenging stages of his studies came during the third year. This was when intensive clinical training, numerous exams, and practical assessments began. During this period, Bekhruz began demonstrating leadership qualities. During one of the ECG analysis projects, he organized the work of the team and coordinated the preparation process. After that, classmates increasingly chose him as a leader of study groups during clinical rotations.
Active clinical practice began in the third year. Bekhruz had the opportunity to observe surgeries and work alongside experienced physicians. Three mentors had a particularly strong influence on his professional development: his father, the Head of the Operating Unit Dr. Azimjon Tursunkulov, and the Head of the Urology Department Dr. Dilmurod Yunusov. It was during this time that he finally realized he wanted to connect his career with urology.
During his clinical rotations at AKFA Medline University Hospital, Bekhruz also actively participated in medical Olympiads, presented research projects, and worked with classmates on initiatives aimed at improving patient awareness. One such project was an informational brochure explaining to patients the stages of surgical preparation and the process of postoperative recovery.
When the hospital opened its residency program, Bekhruz was already well known to the physicians and hospital leadership. After graduating from Central Asian University as an alumnus of the General Medicine program, he was accepted into the urology residency program and today also serves as the chief resident.
One of the key stages of his professional development was his introduction to oncourology.
“When you see the level of these surgeries and understand that such interventions can save lives, you gain a clear understanding of what you want to dedicate yourself to,” he says.
A resident’s working day begins early — around 6:30 a.m. After rounds, surgeries, and clinical work, a significant portion of time is devoted to self-education. To stay connected with the international professional community, Bekhruz became a member of the European Association of Urology (EAU) and regularly studies current clinical guidelines and scientific research.

According to him, studying at Central Asian University provided not only fundamental knowledge but also an understanding of how a physician’s professional path is built — through continuous development, clinical practice, and teamwork.
Today, Bekhruz Alisherov continues building his career in urology, gradually transitioning from the role of a student to that of an independent physician and deepening his specialization in one of the most complex fields of modern medicine — oncourology.
His story is an example of how perseverance, strong academic preparation, and early clinical practice help young doctors confidently build their professional trajectory.
