Climate Action
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

Central Asian University is deeply committed to addressing climate change through a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action. The university’s environmental vision aims to achieve carbon neutrality, reduce energy consumption, manage waste responsibly, and transition fully to renewable energy sources by 2030. CAU integrates sustainability into every aspect of campus life from infrastructure and research to education and community engagement. Through initiatives such as energy-efficient systems, solar power installations, smart waste management, and reforestation projects, CAU is actively reducing its ecological footprint. The university also fosters a strong culture of environmental awareness among students, faculty, and staff, ensuring that sustainability becomes a shared value and daily practice. With continuous monitoring, transparent reporting, and collaboration with local and global partners, CAU strives to position itself as a regional leader in climate action and a model for sustainable development in Central Asia.
CAU’s Carbon Reduction Strategy and Targets (Scope 1 & 2)

Central Asian University acknowledges the urgent need to combat climate change and its impacts, aligning its institutional sustainability strategy with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 - Climate Action. The university recognizes that higher education institutions play a pivotal role in leading the transition toward a low-carbon future through innovation, education, and responsible operations.

To this end, CAU has adopted a proactive approach to reducing its carbon footprint, focusing on measurable progress across all aspects of campus life. The university systematically monitors and manages its direct Scope 1 and indirect Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, integrating sustainability principles into infrastructure design, energy systems, and behavioral practices.

This commitment not only strengthens CAU’s contribution to global climate resilience but also positions the university as a regional leader in environmental stewardship and sustainable campus development.

Central Asian University has established a long-term commitment to carbon reduction by aligning with international climate targets. The university has set the goal of reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2035, with the aspiration to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

This target will be pursued through the following key strategies:

  • Transition to renewable energy sources (solar installations planned by 2026)
  • Energy-efficient renovation of existing campus buildings
  • Gradual electrification of university-owned vehicles
  • Behavioral campaigns and green policy integration across departments
Net Zero Action Plan (Scope 1 & 2)
Target Year: 2050
Goal: Achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions for Scope 1 & 2 by 2050
  • Baseline Year: 2024
