Central Asian University Welcomes International Endoscopic Surgery Expert Dr. Alexander Smirnov

The Central Asian University is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Alexander Smirnov, a distinguished international specialist in endoscopic surgery, to its School of Medicine. Dr. Smirnov, who has garnered extensive experience and expertise in the field of endoscopy, brings a wealth of knowledge and innovative techniques to our academic community.

Dr. Smirnov’s remarkable career includes holding prominent positions at some of the leading medical institutions in the United Kingdom. Notably, he has served as the Head of the Endoscopy Department at the First St. Petersburg State Medical University named after Academician I.P. Pavlov, where he has made significant contributions to the advancement of endoscopic procedures.

His academic journey is equally noteworthy, with rigorous training in pediatrics, surgery, and oncology, culminating in a dissertation that focused on the endoscopic treatment of esophageal diseases. This work has had a profound impact on the field of gastroenterology. Over the course of his career, Dr. Smirnov has performed more than 2,200 complex endoscopic procedures, including Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM), and Submucosal Tunnel Endoscopic Resection (STER), showcasing his exceptional surgical skills and commitment to patient care.

As part of his role at Central Asian University, Dr. Smirnov will be engaging with senior students, with a particular focus on modern endoscopic diagnostics. His courses will empower students to expertly navigate patient examinations and utilize the full range of endoscopic capabilities. Additionally, Dr. Smirnov will be introducing advanced endoscopic surgery techniques, ensuring that our students receive a contemporary and practical understanding of treating traditional diseases with the latest methods.

Dr. Smirnov expressed his enthusiasm for joining the university, stating, “Modern endoscopy opens new horizons for us in diagnosis and treatment. My goal is to pass on not only knowledge but also the confidence that students can use these methods to save lives.”
