Central Asian University Launches Independent School of Architecture and Design Led by Renowned Uzbek Architect

Central Asian University (CAU) is proud to announce the evolution of its Architecture and Design program into a fully independent School of Architecture and Design, marking a significant milestone in its mission to shape future urban environments across Central Asia and beyond.

The newly established School will be led by Shukrullo Jakhongirov, a principal architect and urban planner with over a decade of experience in delivering large-scale projects, from the Olympic City and the New Tashkent Master Plan to major hospitals, universities, parks, and key transport infrastructure developments. As Dean, he brings a forward-looking vision grounded in innovation, sustainability, and global urban design principles.

“Transforming our program into a dedicated School of Architecture and Design goes far beyond a change in name,” noted Kamran Gulamov, Rector of Central Asian University. “It provides the strategic focus, resources, and academic depth needed to cultivate the next generation of architects and designers who will lead complex urban transformations in our region.”
The School is designed to offer:

  • A curriculum at the intersection of digital technologies, sustainable design, and global standards

  • Opportunities to work on real-world projects and intern with top-tier firms

  • Guidance in building competitive portfolios that showcase tangible skills and creativity

  • A mission to rethink how communities live, move, and connect within modern cities

With this transformation, CAU strengthens its position as a hub for international partnerships, innovation, and applied learning. The university looks forward to welcoming new cohorts of students into this specialized environment, equipping them to play pivotal roles in shaping the cities of tomorrow.
