Central Asian University Announces the Establishment of an International Board of Trustees

The Board will contribute to the university’s strategic development, the implementation of innovations, and the strengthening of global partnerships.

Central Asian University (CAU) has established an International Board of Trustees — a global advisory body composed of distinguished experts in medicine, artificial intelligence, higher education, investment, and strategic development.

The Board of Trustees will provide guidance on strategic issues, evaluate new initiatives, and help build global partnerships, as well as support CAU’s development as a regional leader in education, healthcare, and research.
Key Areas of the Board’s Activity
Acting in an advisory capacity, the Board will contribute to the following strategic priorities:

  • Development of flagship projects, including the University Hospital, School of Nursing, digital transformation, and AI initiatives;
  • Expert evaluation of educational, clinical, and research programs;
  • Support for international partnerships with universities, healthcare institutions, and technology companies;
  • Strengthening CAU’s global reputation and positioning it as a next-generation university.

The Board’s expertise spans academic strategy, healthcare, artificial intelligence, international cooperation, talent management, and sustainable development.
Confirmed Members of the Board of Trustee
Erica Komisar (USA) — Trustee for Institutional Strategy and People Development
HR strategist and psychoanalyst, founder of Komisar Wellness, and advisor on inclusive leadership, mental health, and advancing women’s leadership in education and healthcare. Published in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and The Washington Post, she has advised corporations, universities, and healthcare institutions. At CAU, she will lead the development of HR and faculty strategies, implement inclusive leadership and women’s leadership programs, promote mental health initiatives, and design socially responsible projects that strengthen the university’s role in society.
Zack Kass (USA) — Trustee for Artificial Intelligence and Innovation
One of the world’s most recognized experts in the implementation of artificial intelligence. Formerly Head of Global Go-to-Market at OpenAI, where he oversaw the launch and scaling of GPT technologies. Today he advises Fortune 500 corporations, government institutions, and universities on ethical, effective, and sustainable AI integration. A leading public speaker on the technological future, at CAU he is responsible for integrating AI into education and healthcare, launching technology programs, and expanding international partnerships.
Simon Scrivens (UK) — Trustee for Clinical Strategy and International Partnerships
An international healthcare expert with over 30 years of experience in the sector, including roles with the NHS (UK), Cleveland Clinic, and Mayo Clinic. He has led some of Europe’s largest healthcare infrastructure projects, developing sustainable management models, digital solutions, and transformational partnerships. Former Managing Director of Sodexo Healthcare UK and advisor to Mayo Clinic Healthcare London. At CAU, he oversees the university hospital strategy, builds clinical networks, fosters global collaboration, and promotes patient-centered approaches.
Dr. Akhmadjon Irmukhamedov (Denmark) — Trustee for Clinical Innovation and Medical Education
A cardiothoracic surgeon with over 20 years of clinical and academic experience. Served as a senior surgeon at Odense University Hospital (Denmark) in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Currently heads the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Tashkent International Medical Center, engaging in regular international team collaboration. At CAU, he is involved in integrating clinical practice into the educational process, developing cardiac surgery training modules, and planning the infrastructure of the university hospital.
Prof. Dr. Martain Loonen, MD, PhD, FCC(Plast) (Netherlands) — Trustee for Global Surgery and Academic Collaboration
Professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery with international experience in Europe and the Middle East. Earned his PhD with distinction from Utrecht University (Netherlands), becoming one of the youngest PhD holders in his field. Has served as Medical Director and consultant at King’s College Hospital (UAE) and Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital (Dubai). Member of editorial boards of international surgical journals and expert in healthcare and medical investments. At CAU, he promotes global surgical education, scientific publications, and academic exchanges, and helps integrate advanced educational standards into the surgical curriculum.
Dr. Alexander Minich (Belarus) — Trustee for Residency and Medical Workforce Development
A urologist with international experience and mentor to clinical residents. Worked in leading European medical institutions, developing training programs for young doctors and enhancing clinical teaching standards. At CAU, he is responsible for residency strategy, introducing modern methods for assessing clinical competencies, developing faculty capacity, and aligning workforce planning with national healthcare priorities.
Prof. Dr. Igor Burceff, MD (Switzerland) — Trustee for Patient Safety and Clinical Quality
Anesthesiologist and intensivist with international experience in leading clinics across Europe and Asia. Expert in perioperative safety, intensive care, and simulation-based medical training. Has participated in the development and implementation of clinical quality protocols, risk management systems, and staff training programs for high-complexity care environments. At CAU, he integrates patient safety standards, develops emergency and intensive care infrastructure, and implements simulation technologies in medical education.
The Board’s expertise covers academic strategy and higher education transformation, healthcare, clinical governance, and medical education, as well as artificial intelligence, digitalization, and technological development. International cooperation, institutional partnerships, talent management, HR, and educational technology are also among the Board’s competencies, alongside investments, biotechnology, and sustainable development.
