The project for the construction of the CAU Hospital was launched in Tashkent in strategic partnership with Cleveland Clinic

AKFA Group and Central Asian University (CAU) announced the start of construction of the Central Asian University Hospital (CAU Hospital) - a large-scale medical project designed to set new standards for healthcare in the region.
The project is being implemented in strategic partnership with Cleveland Clinic, a world leader in healthcare with more than a century of history. On September 18, a strategic agreement was signed within the framework of the international Cleveland Clinic Connected program, which provides for the introduction of advanced standards of diagnostics, treatment, and medical training in Uzbekistan.
“For AKFA Group, Central Asian University, and the entire healthcare system of Uzbekistan, this is a step towards new quality standards. We are creating infrastructure where medicine, science, and education work as a single whole. CAU Hospital will become a Center of Excellence — a clinic where treatment, training, and research are united according to international standards,” said Jahongir Artykhodjaev, Founder of AKFA Group.
The Central Asian University Hospital is a project with a total area of 91,500 m², implemented in two phases and to be completed by the end of 2027. CAU Hospital is positioned as a Center of Excellence, where clinical care, training, and research are integrated into a world-class quality system. The hospital will become a regional hub of knowledge and innovation, ensuring the introduction of international protocols, a multidisciplinary approach, and continuous safety auditing.
The hospital is designed for 120 beds and up to 269,000 patients per year. Its structure includes an admission and diagnostic department, 8 operating rooms (including 2 hybrid ones), a maternity ward, and key departments: internal medicine, pediatrics, oncology, women’s health, and intensive care.

The implementation of the project corresponds to the strategic initiatives of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the development of the healthcare system and the training of medical personnel of a world-class level.
It should be noted that CAU Hospital is also presented as a training base for future specialists: a simulation center, laboratories, a nursing school, and residency programs will be integrated into the clinical environment.

The hospital will be equipped with a helipad, directly connected to the admission and intensive care departments. This will expand the radius of emergency care to 350 km and ensure the rapid saving of lives even in the most remote areas of the country.
“For more than a century, Cleveland Clinic has united patient care, research, and education. Cooperation with CAU will make it possible to introduce the best international practices — from clinical processes and digital solutions to the training of a new generation of specialists. Together, we are creating an ecosystem for the health of people in Uzbekistan and the region,” said Tommaso Falcone, Executive Vice President and President of International and Emerging Markets at Cleveland Clinic.
The architectural project was developed by the international bureau HKS (USA). Its key feature is modular architecture, which ensures flexible adaptation of space to new medical technologies and future healthcare challenges. Special attention was paid to zoning: patient, staff, and logistics routes are separated, which increases safety, reduces transfer times, and improves clinical outcomes.
“We designed the hospital to be as ready as possible for future innovations. The architecture will allow the integration of new technologies and create a comfortable environment for patients and doctors. Our goal is a hospital of the future that will remain modern even decades from now,” said Francis Gallagher, Regional Director and Partner (RIBA) of HKS in an interview.
The construction of the hospital is presented as a key element of the large-scale expansion of the Central Asian University campus, covering 45 hectares. As part of this project, a new Medical School (for 4,000 students), a Dental School (1,500 students), an Engineering School (1,800 students and 200 master’s students), modern laboratories, and digital infrastructure will appear. The hospital will become the central facility of the expansion, uniting clinical practice, education, and research into a single world-class ecosystem.
As part of the press conference, a solemn time capsule ceremony took place — a symbol of a new stage in the development of medical education and healthcare in Uzbekistan, addressed to future generations.
