CAU Graduate Nodira Makhmudova Matched into U.S. Residency Program

Nodira Makhmudova, a graduate of the Medical School at Central Asian University, has successfully matched into a U.S. residency program through the Match (National Resident Matching Program) — one of the most competitive and demanding stages in an international medical career.
The Match is a centralized system that places medical graduates into residency programs across the U.S. Each year, thousands of candidates from around the world, including graduates of both American and international medical schools, participate in this highly selective process.

The selection process involves multiple stages, including passing the USMLE exams (Step 1 and Step 2), obtaining ECFMG certification, building a strong academic and clinical portfolio, submitting applications to hospitals, completing interviews, and ranking preferred programs. Final placement is determined based on a mutual selection between candidates and residency programs.
Successfully matching means that a candidate is officially accepted into a U.S. residency program and begins professional training and clinical practice as a resident physician.

For Nodira Makhmudova, this achievement is the result of years of dedicated preparation, strong academic discipline, and consistent self-development. Her journey toward the Match began during her university years, where she built a solid medical foundation and developed clinical thinking.
“The most difficult part is not the exams — it’s overcoming yourself: the doubts, the fear, and the thought that ‘I can’t do it,” Nodira shares.

Preparing for the Match requires not only extensive medical knowledge but also strong resilience, as the process is long, highly competitive, and filled with uncertainty.
Nodira will now begin her residency in Internal Medicine in the United States, where she will combine clinical practice with continued professional training.

Central Asian University takes pride in the achievement of its graduate. This success demonstrates that CAU students are capable of competing on a global level and building careers within leading international healthcare systems.
