Central Asian University (CAU) has announced a major development project aimed at transforming education and healthcare in Central Asia
CAU is investing over $250 million in an extensive campus expansion, increasing its current 10.3 hectares to 45 hectares. This ambitious project includes the construction of a medical campus that will cover more than 30 medical disciplines, as well as the development of other educational and research facilities. The expansion will significantly enhance opportunities for medical education and practice, providing students with access to advanced knowledge and technologies.
Investing in the Future of Medicine and Education
According to the Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan, from January to July 2024, 21,700 Uzbek citizens went abroad for education. CAU’s expansion is a strategic move to support import substitution in education, allowing students to study according to world-class methods within the country and attract foreign students. This will promote the export of education and medical services, strengthening Uzbekistan’s position in the international market and providing foreign citizens with access to modern treatment and research.
Medical Campus and Educational Facilities
The medical campus will feature a state-of-the-art private hospital with 400 beds, equipped with advanced technologies to provide high-quality treatment in comfortable conditions and serve as a base for student practical training under the guidance of experienced specialists. The complex will include operating rooms, a clinic, post-operative wards, and an emergency department, as well as a medical research center for conducting innovative studies.
The campus will also house a maternity hospital offering comprehensive obstetric and gynecological services, including prenatal diagnostics and postnatal care. Additionally, the project will include a new medical training building with a capacity of 3,000 students, a nursing school for 900 students, and a residency program for 400 students, aiming to increase the number of qualified medical professionals. The university will also open a new dental school with a clinic for 2,500 students and an engineering school for 1,800 students, both equipped with modern laboratories and technology hubs. Furthermore, a central library with 1,000 seats and a collection of 30,000 publications will be established, providing students and faculty access to a wide range of educational resources and scientific literature.
Innovative Ecosystem and Infrastructure
entral Asian University is developing a modern innovation ecosystem to support education, research, and entrepreneurship. The campus will include a Student House—a hub for student activity featuring 25 startup zones, a coworking space, career and media centers, conference halls, and a university museum.
A conference center with a capacity of 1,000 people will be built to host international conferences and seminars. To support the holistic development of students and schoolchildren, a gymnasium for 1,000 students, a dormitory for 1,000 residents, and a modern sports complex will also be constructed.
To encourage entrepreneurship, startup accelerators will be established, offering mentorship support, business development training, and opportunities to attract investments.
The university grounds will be enhanced with green areas featuring fountains, a pond, an open-air amphitheater, cafes, restaurants, and mini-markets, creating a comfortable environment for learning and leisure.
