Delegation of Central Asian University and AKFA Medline University Hospital Completes Advanced Training at Cleveland Clinic
Tashkent, September 15, 2025 - A delegation from Central Asian University (CAU) and AKFA Medline University Hospital participated in the two-day international educational program Global Physician Leadership Immersion Program hosted at Cleveland Clinic — one of the world’s leading medical centers.
The program included a tour of Cleveland Clinic’s main campus, meetings with senior physicians and administrators, and concluded with the awarding of official certificates to participants. The delegation from Uzbekistan was represented by leading clinicians of AKFA Medline University Hospital, including heads of clinical departments, the hospital’s CEO, and senior administrative leaders.
During the course, the Uzbek delegates studied modern approaches to healthcare management — from building team culture and effective communication to the integration of technology and artificial intelligence into clinical practice. They explored the principles of clinical effectiveness and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), participated in modules on safety and high reliability in healthcare, and deepened their understanding of patient experience and engagement through the R.E.D.E. model.
In addition, participants gained practical knowledge in the financial and managerial foundations of healthcare business, toured the Cleveland Clinic campus, engaged in networking sessions with leading physicians and administrators, and completed the program with the awarding of official certificates.
The program provided a unique experience for participants: exposure to advanced global practices and direct learning through interaction with Cleveland Clinic’s medical and administrative leaders. The Uzbek delegation included heads of CAU and AKFA Medline University Hospital’s key clinical and administrative units responsible for cardiac surgery, urology, infection control, international relations, and healthcare project management.
“For our team, this is not just training but an investment in the future of healthcare in Uzbekistan,” said Dr. Azimjon Tursunkulov, CEO of AKFA Medline University Hospital. “The knowledge and skills we brought back from Cleveland Clinic will be applied from the earliest stages of planning and launching the new CAU Hospital. We are committed to introducing international standards and building a system where patients receive world-class care.”
The experience gained at Cleveland Clinic will form part of a long-term strategic partnership under which CAU and Cleveland Clinic are collaborating to develop the new Central Asian University Hospital in Tashkent. The future 120-bed facility, scheduled to open in 2027, will become a multidisciplinary clinical and educational Center of Excellence, implementing international quality standards, advanced technologies, and innovative approaches in medicine.
Training at Cleveland Clinic will enable Uzbek physicians and administrators to integrate world-class best practices at the earliest stages of the hospital’s design and launch. Participation in this program represents an investment not only in the future CAU Hospital but also in the broader development of Uzbekistan’s healthcare system. The expertise gained from one of the world’s foremost healthcare institutions will help establish international standards in the country and ensure patients receive care of the highest quality.
